After launching in November 2019 with a one-time year-long free trial for new eligible hardware purchases, Apple TV+ is reducing that offer to 3 months beginning July 1st.
Following a quiet update overnight to the promotion's terms and conditions, eligible devices activated July 1st, 2021 or later will qualify for offers of 3 months free Apple TV+ whilst eligible devices activated on June 30th, 2021 or earlier will qualify for the existing 12 month free Apple TV+ offer.
Consistent with how the promotion has always worked, free trials can only be redeemed once per Family Sharing group. This means that if you have had a free Apple TV+ hardware trial before, you cannot redeem the promotion a second time.
The free 3 month trial for Apple TV+ mirrors the company's promotion for Apple Arcade with full details on how to redeem either promotion available here and here.
July 1st also sees the end to free trials that were originally introduced on November 1st 2019, and were extended by an additional 9 months, mainly due to the global pandemic which caused many production shut-downs. Those trials will automatically renew at the beginning of next month as paid subscriptions unless cancelled.
Apple TV+ has grown its library of all Apple Originals' to over 80 titles, which includes award-winning comedy series, drama series, non-fiction series, family and kids shows, and critically acclaimed original feature films.
The strong lineup of content will see many additions through to the end of the year with Apple original series debuts of Physical, Schmigadoon!, Mr. Corman, Foundation and Invasion joining returning award-winning shows; Ted Lasso, SEE and The Morning Show.
Apple original films announced so far for the remainder of 2021 include; Fathom from documentary film-maker Drew Xanthopoulos on June 25th and Sundance grand-jury prize winner CODA on August 13th.
Apple TV+ is priced at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year as a standalone subscription, or part of the Apple One bundle with different tiers available depending on your region.
