When you think of British comedy on Apple TV+, it’s understandable that your mind will first go to ‘Ted Lasso’, which has captured the hearts of a worldwide audience and has become a global phenomenon - but ‘Trying’ is a funny, heartfelt gem that shouldn’t be overlooked. In it’s second season, we pick up with Nikki and Jason after being approved by the adoption panel as begin the journey of being matched with a child whilst dealing with their dysfunctional friends and family at the same time.
Written and created by Andy Wolton (‘The Coopers vs. The Rest’, ‘Lookalikes’) what makes ‘Trying’ so special is the on-screen chemistry between Rafe Spall and Esther Smith and how downright likeable they are as a couple. Much like throughout season 1, we’ll no doubt be rooting for them every step of the way throughout the upcoming season. The carefully crafted cast of supporting characters help flesh out the world and all return for the second season. From the trailer, it looks as if Nikki and Jason’s social worker Penny (Imelda Staunton) will have plenty of scene-stealing moments. Ophelia Lovibond (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’), Robyn Cara (‘Life’), Oliver Chris (‘Green Wing’, ‘Motherland’) and Darren Boyd (‘Four Lions’) will also return.
