Apple have unveiled the premiere date and a first-look at the upcoming period drama 'The Essex Serpent', starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston.
The series, based on the best-selling novel by Sarah Perry, will arrive on Apple TV+ on Friday May 13th with two episodes, with a new episode premiering each subsequent Friday through June 10th.
'The Essex Serpent' follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Tom Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.
Alongside Danes and Hiddleston, Clemence Poesy, Frank Dillane, Hayley Squires, Jamael Westman, Michael Jibson, Dixie Egerickx and Jamael Westman will round out the cast. The series is written by Anna Symon and directed by Clio Bernard, who has won several awards for her earlier work including Best New Documentary Filmmaker at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Fun Fact: Keira Knightley was originally set to star as Cora before leaving the project due to personal reasons, with Claire Danes taking over the role.
