The Shantae series of games originally debuted on Nintendo’s Game Boy Color way back in 2002. Set in the fictional world of Sequin Land, the franchise has seen Shantae – a half-genie heroine – serve as the guardian of Scuttle Town.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens will be the second outing for Shantae on Apple platforms following 2011’s Shantae: Risky’s Revenge.

Apple Arcade subscribers will be able to play Shantae and the Seven Sirens on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac when the service launches later this year.

WayForward revealed new information about the Apple Arcade title earlier today:

Formerly referred to as Shantae 5, ‘Shantae and the Seven Sirens’ sends the belly-dancing, hair-whipping, half-genie hero to a tropical island where Shantae and her friends encounter other Half-Genie allies, but they soon learn there’s trouble in paradise.

As Shantae gets caught up in the island’s sinister secrets, she’ll use all-new dance abilities and instant-transformation Fusion Magic to explore the nonlinear, interconnected world where she’ll visit multiple towns, overcome treacherous labyrinths, and battle dastardly bosses. The game also features a new collectible card system that grants players the freedom to augment Shantae’s powers to suit their own style of play.

Sky have announced a new update to their Sky Go app for subscribers to their UK television service. The new update includes an improved user interface, accessibility features and access to Sky Q DVR recordings.

The updated app will rollout in phases to iPhones, iPads, Macs, Android, PC and Amazon Fire hardware – disappointingly, Sky have given no indication that an Apple TV app is in the works.

The new UI features one-touch access to Home, TV guide, Browse, Downloads and Recordings. The app introduces new personalised recommendations to Sky Cinema subscribers based on viewing history whilst Sky Q recordings will be limited to Sky Q Multiscreen customers. In addition, downloads require a Sky Go Extra subscription.

Sky have also announced a renewed focus on accessibility. Visually impaired customers can now navigate the app with less effort thanks to an improved video player and voice over navigation features.

We hope Sky continue to improve both Sky Go and Now TV apps with future Apple TV app and Apple TV channels integration. Whilst the wait continues for a native Sky Go Apple TV app we have had previous success screen-mirroring Sky Go content to Apple TV via Mac.

Sky TV customers can easily watch their favourite shows, movies, sports and now their recordings with the release of the brand-new Sky Go app.

The new app combines the existing Sky Q and Sky Go app features, allowing customers to watch their favourite tear jerkers, nail biting sports matches and gripping dramas, from Sky, ITV, Channel 4 and more in a single, easy-to-use experience, both at home and away.

The app’s new design and features include:

  • Simple, one-touch destinations in a new UI including Home, TV Guide, Browse, Downloads and Recordings, helping customers find what they want to watch quickly and easily on any device
  • A ‘Browse’ page aggregating content by theme and genre from all channels on Sky Go
  • Personalised Sky Cinema recommendations – suggesting movies based on genre, ‘Because you watched’ and, ‘More like this’
  • A Recordings page where Sky Q customers can view and control upcoming recordings and series links
  • Enhanced accessibility and better navigation features to make it easier for visually impaired customers to use the app. The video player has been improved so that they can now pause and skip the videos. Voiceover lets customers hear a description of everything they click on, font size can be increased without losing functionality and colours can be inverted for greater contrast

The new Sky Go app will be available this summer on iOS, Android, Amazon Fire devices and Amazon app store as well as on PC and MAC. Customers will be able to update their existing app, or download the new version from the Google Play, Apple and Amazon app stores for free.

Sky Mobile customers can also take advantage of unlimited streaming of Sky shows, movies and sports on Sky Go with Sky Mobile Watch, which enables streaming on the go anywhere in the UK and EU, without using any data allowance.

Sky’s à la carte subscription service – Now TV – is available on Apple TV in the UK.

With the launch of its streaming service imminent, Apple’s dedicated Apple TV YouTube channel has shifted its focus to Apple’s original content lineup. The channel which launched in April was once home to a plethora of film trailers, behind the scenes TV-show clips and interviews from a host of content partners. The last non Apple TV+ related video published to the channel – just 6 days ago – is now unavailable.

Before the launch of Apple’s dedicated Apple TV YouTube channel, trailers from content partners had historically been housed in Apple’s iTunes Trailers platform which hasn’t seen a design update in over a year. It is yet to be seen how – or if – Apple will promote future content and behind the scenes clips from its content partners along with its other original content offerings; including Carpool Karaoke.

Apple TV+ is set to launch this Autumn via the Apple TV app across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and a selection of Smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio.

Apple have shared a teaser trailer for Apple TV+ original drama ‘The Morning Show’. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell; the show is said to reveal “the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the men and women who carry out this daily televised ritual.”

This is the first time Apple has shared a trailer for ‘The Morning Show’, following its services focused event in March where the show first debuted through an onstage monologue by its lead stars. The teaser trailer – viewable below – pans through a number of rooms within a typical TV broadcast studio whilst various soundbites from the upcoming show can be heard.

In addition to Apple launching Instagram and Twitter pages for the Apple original drama, ‘The Morning Show’ is the first Apple TV+ teaser to feature within the TV app.

Apple TV+ is set to launch this Autumn via the Apple TV app across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and a selection of Smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio.

‘The Morning Show’ will be available through the Apple TV app when Apple TV+ launches this Autumn.

 
 

DisneyLife, Disney’s streaming service in the UK and Ireland will cease operation following the launch of Disney+ according to a Media Nations UK 2019 Report from the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom.

DisneyLife launched in the UK and Ireland in 2015, offering subscribers a large selection of classic Disney on demand video along with music and books through its apps on iOS and Apple TV devices for £4.99 per month.

Ofcom’s report states:

“Disney+ is set to launch in the US on 12 November 2019 and then globally shortly after (a UK launch date is yet to be announced at the time of writing). Disney plans to scale up its platform, a strategy supported by the lower price point for the service compared to Netflix’s popular standard tier, at £5.99 per month. DisneyLife will cease operation once Disney+ launches.”

Whilst there has been no official communication from Disney regarding the closure of DisneyLife, Disney CEO Bob Iger commented this week that Disney+ is set to launch in two international markets shortly after Disney+ debuts in the US on November 12th.

Disney have expressed that they expect Disney+ to be available on Apple TV hardware at launch but admit negotiations with Apple are still ongoing.

One of gamings most touching and beautiful achievements, Journey easily holds a spot in my top 5 favourite games of all time. The exploration puzzler tells the story of a traveler and his journey as you cross many dangerous landscapes.

Journey truly redefined what games could be with its launch on PlayStation 3 seven years ago. Forgoing many gaming tropes your goal is to guide the unnamed traveler toward the shiny mountain in the distance.

From its unique art-style and online mechanics to it’s Austin Wintory soundtrack, Journey will charm newcomers and suck existing fans back in.

Published for iOS by Annapurna Interactive, this release has been made specifically for touch input; with the omission of MFi controller support meaning a Apple TV release in the near future looks unlikely. Despite that, I still highly recommend sharing this phenomenal game’s experience with others on the big screen through AirPlay.

Journey – $4.99 – is available now on the App Store, requiring iOS 12.2 or later with a 1.1GB download.

Sky: Children of the Light – thatgamecompany’s latest work – is expected to release for Apple TV in the coming months.
